But sometimes, not everything goes smoothly as it should be. There are times when renting a place becomes a terrifying horror story that would make you want to quit renting all together. Below are some examples, from the internet, of dreadful tenant stories that will simply make you want to second guess your renting plans.

Internet collision

Sally G. is a brand manager who’s renting a studio type apartment in the city. Included in her rent is the internet connection available in the whole building. Sally, who needs to use internet to complete her job at home, got ticked off by the inconsistent internet connection. It’s only available in the morning, which is totally useless for Sally since she’s only in her apartment during the night. She asked the landlord to turn on the internet the whole day but he refused, telling her that it’s a waste of money.

What we can learn: If the internet is part of what you’re paying for, then you have the right to a connection to it the whole day. Ask the landlord to do this and if he refuses, then you should stop paying for the internet altogether and call you lawyer.

Underwear, nowhere

Amy S. is living with her three co-workers in a rental apartment. Every Saturday she washes her own clothes (including her underwear) and hangs it in their balcony. Lo and behold she and her roommates are dumbfounded to find out that some of their underwear are nowhere to be found. Amy goes to her landlord’s house to report and stops short when she sees her own underwear at her landlord’s sofa.

What we can learn: Always remember to turn your instinct on high when you’re talking with your future landlord. Assess if he or she is a creep and might do your harm. In case anything as similar as sexual harassment happen then you better call your lawyer for any advice.

My house is live on the news

Jake F. was watching his nightly news one Monday evening when he saw his very own apartment live on the television. It turns out that the apartment complex that he’s living in is under investigation of the police because of being a drug hideaway.

What we can learn: Remember to do your research about your neighborhood before renting. You may never know which news your property will appear to.

Locked out of heaven

Jamie H. got home late after a work overtime and was horrified to learn that he left his keys inside his property. He called his landlord right away and shocked to learn that his landlord took a vacation and can’t open the door for him.

What we can learn: It’s a renting basic: always have extra copy of your apartment available. You may never know when your landlord is not there to save you.
