Signs You’re Over Decorating

Filipinos love decorating. Our homes are always adorned with framed photographs, religious items, potted plants, and bright accessories. There are no walls spared from various trinkets that we collected from different places. Decorations are simply part of a Filipino home, a great representation of our love for anything that’s colorful and vibrant.

But sometimes, our love for decorating comes off as too much. And anything that’s excessive can end into something disastrous. Before you commit a major design faux pas in your home, we unravel some of the signs that you might be over decorating your home.

You have too much of everything

From throw pillows, candles, to rugs and mugs. Everything in your house comes with numbers and it can sometimes hurt your house’s space, aesthetics, and of course your precious wallet. Keep everything in minimum the next time you shop to avoid getting variations of the same item.

It feels overcrowded

Sometimes we get that feeling that our beloved space feels a bit overcrowded. Maybe it’s because there’s not enough vacant space for you to breathe out. Create a breathing room a.k.a. a space where there’s no allotted decoration so that you can feel at ease.

Unused furniture

That dresser that you bought from your recent trip is still untouched and couldn’t figure out what to do with it. If this is the case, then better throw that unused furniture away or give it to someone who will actually use it.

Visitors do not feel comfortable

For some reason, your friends do not like hanging out at your place. Or maybe if they want to, they do not stay for long because there’s not much room to move around. Maybe it’s time to minimize the decor and maximize your space. Your peace of mind and your friends will thank you for it.

Your decorations have decorations

You put trinkets around the lamp that your mother gave you. Your frames always have an extra embellishment that it doesn’t really need. Your chairs are over coated with colors that do not match. If this is the case, then maybe it’s time to strip down your decorations into their simplest form.

Decorations are fun to have in any home. But always remember that less is more. Concentrate on making your home functional yet still stylish with these helpful tips above.
