Renting A Room: Things That You Shouldn’t Forget

Most Filipinos would rather rent than acquire a property. Research shows that two thirds of Filipinos are looking for a place to rent rather than a place to buy.

One of the most common type of property that Filipinos rent are rooms. Yes, rooms. Not a whole apartment but rather a room in a house. It’s perfect for both Filipino renters and tenants. Families who need a little extra cash can rent out a room of their house. Meanwhile, tenants who came all the way from the provinces can have a nook of space for their clothes and a place to crash in after a day’s work.

Renting a room is very economical but there are still things that are at stake. If you want to safely rent a room without getting stressed out then follow the rules below.

Look for something more spacious

There are room rents out there that are available in a good price (meaning cheap) but lacks space. If you think you have too many clothes or you’re not comfortable with a small space then you should look for a room for rent that has a little more space.

Rent to someone you know

If you fear your safety then you should rent a room from someone you know. There are many criminal cases that happened to many renters this past year. You would want to rent with someone who you know especially when you’re about to live with others.

Check the landlord

Do not forget to turn your instinct to the highest level when talking to your landlord. You should also check out the landlord’s family and if you think you can live with them. Are they noisy? Are there any weird occurrence? Get to know the landlord a little bit so that you won’t have to suffer to any mistakes.

Set rules and boundaries

Ask the landlord if there are any rules that you have to follow when you’re renting in their room. Are you allowed to have pets? Are you allowed to bring friends? Is there any curfew? Also do not forget to tell the landlord your own set of rules. These rules and boundaries can help you live harmoniously with your landlord.

Be upfront

Remember to voice out your concerns in case you feel any disturbance. Do not hesitate to tell your landlord that you cannot sleep because of the loud noises outside your room or that one time when you got locked out of the house because you left your property inside and no one lets you in.

Proper communication with your future landlord can help you in ways that you won’t be able to imagine. Happy renting!
