Reasons Why People Keep On Migrating To The City

Metro Manila has a current population of 12,877,253, making it the 9th most populous location in Asia. This number combines true bred Manileños who have been living in the city their whole lives. Half of them are migrants, both locally and internationally.

Moving in the city

The boom of population in the National Capital Region says a lot about the continuing globalization. As we move closer towards technology and medical advancement, many people are now seeing the ups of living in the city. More and more people from the province are now moving to the city in hopes of better opportunities. Other than opportunities, the city also serves many qualities that people can’t get enough of. Here are some of them:

Entertainment

Not to be discouraged: there are tons of entertainment establishments located even in the provinces. There are beaches, mountains, and so on. But the city offers a different kind of entertainment, something that can cater to the urbanized and younger. There are malls, clubs, and cinemas all around Metro Manila. In the city, the night always feels young and vibrant.

Food

According to a research, 46% of people would leave their neighborhood just to try out a new restaurant. With tons of restaurants booming all over Metro Manila, one will have a tough job deciphering where to eat next. Thanks to the #foodie bum trend everyone from the province are travelling towards the city just to experience these mouth watering dishes.

Schools

Cities are also known for having the best roast of schools. Because of this, many students leave their homes from the provinces to finish their college education at the most prestigious schools in the country.

Jobs

If there’s a city there’s probably a job waiting for you. With the bloom of the BPO industry and other investments in the Philippines, there’s no reason why people shouldn’t take their chances in the concrete jungle and see where it can take them.

Residential opportunities

Another thing that the city boasts off is its unlimited residential opportunities. Metro Manila has new developments coming left and right, ready to cater to anyone who dares to take the leap of faith in its streets. House and lot, condominium, apartments – everything is here!

But…

Unfortunately, there are certain repercussions when it comes to too much migration towards the city. The first thing is the over population. Over population results to congested traffic (as we are suffering right now), and poor services. Over population can also cause for many probinsyanos to become informal settlers. It can also cause for environmental problems.

What we can do is to create stronger opportunities in the provinces that can equate to what we have in the city. The better distribution of power in both commercial and residential establishment can result into un-congested city and a nation that’s stronger in every corner.
