Fair Housing: What Every Filipino Needs

Every Filipino has the right to own a property, no matter what his or her ethnicity, religion, and cultural background is. Having a roof over your head is simply a must for every Filipino.

Fortunately, the government is doing its best to keep this promise. This is the reason why various fair housing laws are implemented in our constitution. These laws serve to make sure that no one will get discriminated from getting the property that they want. Below are some of the stipulations that you have to remember about the fair housing law in the Philippines.

Access for everyone

One of the major points of fair housing is the equal access for property for everyone. Your ethnicity, religion, language, and beliefs should never hinder you from getting the property that you want. This means that home sellers and developers shouldn’t follow a certain stereotype or preference when it comes to choosing the buyer for their property.

Enhances the community

The fair housing law also ensures that the community is in harmony. No one is in harm because they all have an equal and sustainable roof above their heads. This can lead to a more fruitful economy and sound nation.

Coverage

The law covers the rights of anyone that lives in the Philippines especially its citizens. It shall protect Filipinos from any discrimination against their religion, beliefs, sexual orientation, and so on. People with disability are also included in the law’s coverage.

Properties included

Housing including apartments, condominiums, rent, and others are all under the coverage of the law as long as it is built and located in the country.

What is prohibited by the law?

Any broker, developer, and landlord are not allowed to refuse to sell or to rent a potential homebuyer. They also shouldn’t set different terms or conditions based on any of the mentioned coverage in the law. They also shouldn’t deny anyone access to basic membership or facility. The seller or landlord shouldn’t deny access to home loan or mortgage loan.

For people with disabilities, sellers and buyers are not allowed to refuse any reasonable modifications in the dwelling that may help the person with disability. For example, the renter needs a therapy pet for his depression. The landlord is not allowed to stop the renter from bringing in his pet.

With the fair housing guide, Filipinos all over the country now have the right to own the property that they want. Start owning up your rights by finding your dream home right in our portal.
