How to Make a Christmas “Parol” and Other DIY Décor Ideas

Perhaps one of the most common household decorations during Christmas time in the Philippines, the Christmas lantern or “Parol” comes in all sizes, but definitely has one shape only. It represents the star that appeared in the manger when Jesus Christ was born and the one that led the Three Kings to Bethlehem. It’s made of thin bamboo sticks tied together by straw and then covered with thin colored paper or plastic to give it that distinct Christmas color.

It’s an age old tradition for one member of the family to become the designated “parol” maker, but just in case you’re living on your own in your cozy apartment or townhouse, then here are some easy steps on how to make your very own DIY Christmas Parol.
